Woolpack ‘A’ 14/09/2009

The new season has begun and we’ve had a decent start. First match at home to Woolpack ‘A’ saw us getting stuffed 2-6 with most people still in holiday mode. But despite the negative of the score-line, the positive was a bright new face to the team. Well, actually 2 new faces if you count the bloke Anna was with, and just happens to be the one playing pool! James joins us this season having previously played for the Woolpack ‘A’ over the summer. His debut game against his former team-mates resulted in a personal victory, so for that reason alone he gets the vote for this weeks Man of the Match.

Q Ball ‘A’ 28/09/2009

So that was the Essex Cup out the way, done and dusted for another season. Next up was a trip to Q-Ball ‘A’ in the defence of our title for the Divisional cup, and what a difference a week makes. Everyone was firing on most cylinders and it was a delight to see George win his first frame of pool in the winter league. James however seems to be a bad piece of business, not in the playing sense but in the refereeing sense. So far both frames he’s presided over have resulted in a loss for the Tulip player! However it was a great all round performance and sees us through to the 2nd round where we’ll face one of the favourites for the league title, the Flyer ‘B’. Some good performances but for me it was George’s win that tips the balance for this weeks Man of the Match.

Woolpack ‘A’ 05/10/2009

In the first match of the league season we saw our second meeting with the Woolpack ‘A’ and what a transformation in fortunes! With so many great performances it’s hard to pick a Man of the Match.  The George, sporting a jumper that Noel Edmonds would be proud of, played brilliantly and got the team off to a cracking start. Andy tried so hard to snooker himself but, being the talent that he is, still managed to find 2 outstanding pots to win his frame. Waspy had a good frame as did Trevor. A freshly tipped cue seemed to do wonders for MJ and an eight ball clearance in his singles, plus being the better of the 2 partners despite a doubles loss means he gets this weeks Man of the Match.

Flyer ‘B’ 12/10/2009

Well Mondays display was not one to revel in, and picking a Man of the Match is no easy choice. George couldn't make it 3 from 3, Andy didn't get a look in his singles, and most of the players looked a tad over awed by a very impressive Flyer ‘B’ line-up.

There were only 2 frames of note that really deserved a nomination.  One would be Trevor's fantastic pot on the black in the first doubles which raised a little controversy, but in my opinion James refereeing made the correct decision, and in true Tulip style, stuck to his guns under great duress from the opposition.  However, this weeks Man of the Match goes to our newest signing Ben. Only 16 years of age and its clear this lad’s going to have a massive future in the game.  Already the world under 18 pool champion, this signing is going to raise a few ripples in the Chelmsford League and I'm delighted to have his signature on the Tulip ‘C’ registration form. A very cool calm and collected performance from the youngster got our only point in the singles despite barracking from the opposition, means Ben gets this weeks Man of the Match.

The Bell 19/10/2009

With only seven players making the trip to Ingatestone the decision of MOM was a slightly easier one. With everyone apart from George winning one game out of two from the list of 7 singles and three doubles played, the decision was made on which player got to terms with the table better, which can be said isn’t the most reactive. With only MJ and Andy making light work of their singles wins it was down to Andy who was captain for the night in Ian’s absence, to make the decision. How could he vote for himself even though he probably deserved it? (editors note to Ian - look and learn), means MJ gets this weeks Man of the Match.

Black Bull ’A’ 26/10/2009

Good to see the team back to winning ways this week despite having a few players out. This weeks decision was a tough call with 3 players all earning a nomination for different reasons. Craig played very well, making an excellent clearance and a fabulous long black up the rail. Rob was as usual in fantastic form taking out Chris Neil in a dazzling display of potting. But, after much discussion & deliberation the decision for Man of the Match went to me. Turning up with the intention of just getting out the house after surgery the week before, I was called upon to play due to player shortages. Hopping around the table I made light work of the frame winning comfortably despite standing on one foot. The same with the doubles after partner Andy clearing most of the balls I made a decent snooker on first attempt which resulted in Andy getting 2 visits which he finished on the black, but the final pot was left to me. A thin cut to the middle bag, standing on one foot, no mean feat, but accomplished.

Q Ball ’A’ 02/11/2009

Some good performances were all marred by silly errors tonight so picking an overall man of the match wasn’t easy. Steve had a good debut, but marred by his doubles performance and the odd poorly thought out shots in his singles.  Rob was again solid but did nothing out of the ordinary. Waspy played very well but his inability to pot the black in both his frames cost him a chance of winning. Trevor wasn’t up to his usual standard but did make a very good finish to his frame so he was in the running. The A1 team committee however were fairly unanimous when asked to vote. A very good performance from the man finalised by a fantastic pot on the black gives George (who asked if we could play the Q-Ball ‘A’ every week!) this weeks Man Of The Match.

Tulip ’B’ 09/11/2009

Not an easy one to pick tonight with everyone really just looking like going through the motions but going through them well and convincingly. Waspy’s pot on the black in the doubles would have won it for him tonight, and Trevor was fairly solid in both his singles and doubles but again there was nothing of real note that stood him out from the rest.  This weeks Man of the Match goes to Rob who despite (in my opinion) not being at his peak played a red almost the full way up the rail and got position on his second to last ball. It’s really for that shot alone that he stood out from the rest of the team.

Woolpack ’B’ 16/11/2009

There was no real doubt as to who was to get the Man of the Match tonight. Trevor thought he was in with a chance until Rob's performance made everyone nod in agreement that he was unquestionably this week’s Man of the Match!

Blue Lion ’A’ 30/11/2009

It has to be said not the greatest of performances. However picking a Man of the Match is made much easier due to that fact. With Rob’s inability to spot a chance to take control of the frame when his opponent held all the aces helped cost “The Don” his third MOM nomination in a row. So with only two other players standing out, one being George who, with the score at 4-3 to the Blue Lion stepped up to record a massive win for the team, the black being sunk to a huge sigh of relief to his team mates and captain! . But this weeks winner however earns his first award of the season, where in both his singles and doubles made 6 or 7 ball clearances when his opponent had controlled the frame only to be unable to get to the black. They were both outstanding clearances with the pressure on, so Trevor deservedly earns this weeks Man of the Match.

Compasses ’B’ 07/12/2009

A poor performance tonight with only 4 players (Andy, Craig, Rob and Trevor) winning their games. With nothing outstanding from any of the wins denoting an outright winner, another cause for MOM was required. So with thinking caps on and with a single player taking on the job of refereeing all the Tulip teams frames, and thankfully making a faultless task if it, earns Trevor for the second week in a row, this weeks Man of the Match.

Flyer ’A’ 14/12/2009

Another poor performance by the team saw the match lost by the end of the singles and with only two players in the reckoning for MOM. With Andy and Craig both winning their individual games and then teaming up for doubles success it was one particular shot of the night that decided it. With the frame all but lost and in a snooker behind the black, his escape round the angles off two cushions to nestle delicately behind his colour and therefore putting his opponent back in a snooker. This frame winning shot gives Craig this weeks Man of the Match.

Flyer ’B’ 04/01/2010

First match of the New Year, and the first in three weeks and it showed. With most players needing more than a few chances in their games and only Trevor scoring two wins to his name, he was in with a good shout for MOM. But with credit to his doubles partner, it wasn’t quite a one horse race. Eleventh and final frame of the night and an 8 ball clearance made all the more impressive for the fact that he had to pull a couple of shots out of the bag. A nice dish with a bit of pressure thrown in, means Waspy pips Trevor for this weeks Man of the Match.

The Bell 11/01/2010

Not much to shout about with our second loss to The Bell this season. With only 4 players troubling the score sheet there was one player who stood out with two wins to his name. Coupled with the two clearances he made in assuring those wins, the first coming in his singles when, with his opponent clearing to the black and leaving it over the pocket, a 6 ball clearance had to be made which, including a do or die double means that Andy gets this weeks Man of the Match.
