TULIP ALLSTARS

With a steady but by no means outstanding first half of the season behind us, the next hurdle was a local derby match with the Allstars. We were looking to score heavily to maintain our hopes of taking the title.

Andy was pushed up the order and asked to play the first frame. Other than rattling his first attempt at potting the black he was never in trouble and the first frame was in the bag. 0 – 1

Ian put himself forward for frame two but was unable to double the advantage. The crucial moment came when on a clearance; Ian accidentally snookered himself on the last colour. The frame then rolled on for a few more visits with the Allstars player eventually notching up the win. 1 – 1

In the first 45’s Ian and Waspy paired up for the second time this season, hoping to repeat their performance last week. With Waspy bagging 25 points together with a high break of 12, the frame was won with the Allstars only managing 18. 1 – 3

In the third singles Tam never looked in trouble and took the frame comfortably. 1 – 4

In the forth frame Trevor managed to repeat Ian’s mistake and snooker himself going to the last colour. This was once again to prove costly and his opponent made a nice 4 or 5 ball clearance to take the frame. 2 – 4

The second 45’s saw Keith and Andy pair up for the third time this season. The first time Keith dominated the potting but the next time things were even with Andy just edging it. Retrospectively we thing Andy must have been on a mission. He completely dominated the table and notched up his and our highest break of the season with 29. The frame was soon over with their opponents scoring 14. 2 – 6

In the fifth singles Waspy became an honorary kitten as he used several lives to scrape a win. But win he did and it was now time for the remaining players to convert this into a good win. 2 – 7

The first person to be set this challenge was Keith but he was not going to falter and won his frame with ease. 2 – 8

The final 45’s was left to Tam and Trevor. Trevor hit two breaks of 12 in his 29 and Tam had a break of 13 in his 16 points, brushing past the opposition who managed 1 point. 2 – 10

So all did well with the exception of Trevor and Ian who have been sent off to the naughty boy’s room to think about their game and to chew the cud over ….. Well whatever they come up with.

Next week we play host to the Eagle and Hind and let’s hope we can get as good as, if not better result and maintain our unbeaten record.
