FLYER A
This week sees the Tulip ‘C’ travel to the Flyer
knowing that realistically we need a draw to keep our title hopes alive. Whilst
a defeat would not exclude us from taking the title, we would rely on other
sides taking more than a couple of points from both The Flyer and the Blue
Lion.
Waspy was asked to play in frame one and must have felt confident after
playing very well in practice earlier. His opponent won the toss, elected to
break and went on to pot two balls. Waspy replied
with two pots but could only watch as his opponent then cleared the table with
some very good shots. 1 – 0
In frame two Andy had to initially play second
fiddle whilst the Flyer player cleared to the black. Luckily for Andy the black
was rattled giving Andy his chance. Andy pots and then lays a
snooker. His opponent misses giving Andy two shots. Surviving a near in
off, and with the help of a nudge or two to move balls, Andy clears the table
to bring the match level. 1 – 1
The first 45’s see Ian and Trevor play together for
only the second time this season. Unlike the first time, this was not going to
be a frame either player would care to remember. Neither player got going
whilst the Flyer pair cruised to the 45 quite quickly. So there went Trevor’s
100% record in the 45’s. 3 – 1
Tam stepped forward for the 3rd singles,
won the toss and broke. Potting a yellow, he nominates reds but misses leaving
his opponent an open table and a chance to clear yellows. It was all going well
for the Flyer player until he snookered himself after potting the fifth ball.
The frame then goes tactical for a couple of shots until Tam, whilst making a
clearance, watches the cue ball go in off. His
opponent makes no mistakes and pots his remaining balls. 4 – 1
Keith playing in the 4th singles faired
no better. His frame was sealed when trying to lay a snooker,
he left the finest of gaps which the Flyer player was up to get through and the
frame was lost. 5 – 2
The second 45’s was now a must win frame and Craig
and Tam were up to the task. With a break of 13 and 16 between them they were
on 29 before the Flyer pair got started. Not long after Tam finished the task
with a break of 11. 5 – 3
Now we were back in the match and it was whether or
not we could push on and get something out of the game.
Well if nothing else the Gods were doing their bit
to help. Trevor was clearly not at his best tonight and should have lost his
singles. Despite getting to the black first Trevor rattled it leaving the Flyer
player a straight red to the corner. It was a ‘Cadbury’s Parrott’ moment as the
ball went deep into the pocket only to pop back up. What a lucky *#$%. Trevor
steadied himself, controlled his laughter and took the gift. 5 – 4.
Craig then sealed the deal with a nice clearance in
his frame to take it to a winner takes all final 45’s. 5 – 5
Unfortunately it was all about one player…….. a Flyer player. Making a break of 41 there was absolutely
nothing Andy or Waspy could do and the frame and
match was lost. 7 – 5
From here on in we must take every frame we can and
just hope that others can do us a favour.
FINAL SCORE
FLYER ‘A’ 7 - 5 TULIP ‘C’
