BLACK BULL B
This week the Tulip ‘C’ played host to the
travelling Black Bull ‘B’ team knowing that we must score heavily if we are to
stand any chance of gaining silverware at the end of the season.
It seemed to start well as in the first frame
Andy’s opponent had a dry break giving Andy the first chance in the frame. Andy
duly accepted and went on to clear seven colours leaving a shot to the middle
on the black for the frame. Alas the black was undercut and caught the high jaw
of the pocket. Andy’s opponent then pots and snookers twice in a row, with Andy
fouling on the second escape. The Black Bull player pots a few then misses but
still looked favourite to take the frame with his remaining visit. Amazingly he
then finds an in off and gifts Andy the frame. 1 – 0
Trevor broke off in frame two, potted a red and
went for yellows. After potting two he had to play a controlling safety shot.
His opponent was unable to pot and on his second visit Trevor cleared the
remaining five yellows to leave a similar shot to Andy. You could almost read
his thoughts…. ‘I will show Andy how it’s done’ but Trevor missed in exactly
the same manner. His opponent then lays a snooker
however coming off two cushions through one corner, Trevor came back to hit the
black in the middle of the table…………straight into the opposite corner. LOL 2 –
0
The first 45’s saw Waspy
and Craig pair up for the first time this season. Never looking in trouble and
with steady potting they got to 45 with the opposition still on 14. 4 – 0
In the third singles the Black Bull player broke
and clears four balls. Keith then pots one and tries to cover a pocket. His
opponent then misses an opportunity to cover the same pocket and Keith goes on
to make a quality clearance including two long rail shots. 5 – 0
The 4th singles was contested by Ian who
got the first chance after his opponent had a dry break. Ian potted three balls
but could not continue the break. Both players then missed the odd chance with
neither seeming to be able to get control. It went on like this until Ian had a
very unlucky ‘through the angles’ in off giving his opponent two shots. The
Black Bull player pots one but snookers himself and fouls. Ian misses first
ball so elects to play safe. This proved to be the key shot as his opponent
then leaves Ian with a chance of a long pot which was duly made along with the
clearance. 6 – 0
The second 45’s was played by Ian and Keith. The opposition
offered a little more resistance than in the first 45’s but still went down
only scoring 20. 8 – 0
Craig stepped up for the 7th singles and
had to watch his opponent break and get first chance at the balls. However only
2 balls were potted and after a couple of shots each, Craig seized the moment
to make a total clearance and take the frame. 9 – 0
With no sixth player, Waspy
was awarded a walkover. 10 – 0
Andy and Trevor played the last 45’s against a
single opponent. The Black Bull player managed a spirited 11 points but with
the Tulip pairing using tactics knowing one followed the other, the result was
only ever going one way. 12 – 0
This result keeps us in the hunt for silverware but
we still need a result or two to go our way. Key games now are the double
header against the Qball next week, followed by the
home game against the Blue Lion the week after.
FINAL SCORE
TULIP ‘C’ 12 - 0 BLACK BULL ‘B’
