WEDNESDAY 30TH JULY 2008
SUMMER LEAGUE
HOME
EAGLE & HIND
In the away fixture earlier in the
season we were guilty of giving away points in frames that we should have won.
Now was the time to rectify that and make sure we nail every point as we try to
put pressure on the top of the table.
Craig stepped up for frame one and was
first to pot clearing five of his colours however a lack of position forces a
safety shot from Craig. The frame then goes tactical until the E & H player
fouls giving Craig two shots. Craig sets up the ball with first shot but is
unable to clear as he finds himself jawed. The E & H player then clears to
two and lays a snooker. Not only is Craig up to the
challenge, but he lays his own snooker from the escape!!! The E & H player
misses and Craig makes no mistakes and takes the frame. 1 – 0
In a change of tactic Trevor was moved
up the order. This seemed to work as Trevor potted a couple, played a
containing shot, and then cleared the table in the next visit. 2 – 0
In the first 45’s Ian and Andy paired
up for the 3rd time this season and the pair took just 5 visits
between them to secure the frame. Ian managed to equal his highest break of 14
for this season. 4 – 0
The 3rd singles was played
by Waspy who did his best to give us all a heart attack. After a few early
exchanges and pots, Waspy was left with a half decent clearance chance. The
clearance was made but he did manage to cannon the black deep into the jaws of
a corner pocket but somehow gravity was defied. Two pots later it was all over.
5 – 0
Keith played the 4th singles
and despite his opponent clearing to two balls he never looked in any danger
and the frame was secured. 6 – 0
The 2nd 45’s, played by
Trevor and Craig, was also won in five visits to the table. The notable
contribution came from Trevor taking the team highest break record to 30 for
the season. 8 – 0
It’s fair to say that things were going
perfectly to plan. It was time to drive the advantage home and record a big
win. Unfortunately that’s where the wheels came off the wagon.
Andy was first to fail when despite
some great potting he was not able to nail the frame. Ian soon followed but
this time it was the failure to lay a snooker that was the key moment. 8 – 2
We still at this stage had the chance
to record a 10 – 2 if the final 45’s could be won. Keith and Waspy were sent
forward however they just could not get going. Mustering 42 points with no
breaks of note they could only watch as the E & H pair made it to 45. 8 – 4
So despite a great start we were unable
to secure the extra points required to turn it into a big win. However, two
positives…… The Flyer lost tonight and we remain unbeaten. Next week we travel
to the Flyer and will need to bring our A game with us if we are to keep our
title hopes alive.
