ESSEX TROPHY 2ND ROUND
AWAY
BLUE LION ‘B’
A popular venue for the Tulip ‘C’ team
who seem to enjoy playing the Blue Lion lot having had success against the ‘A’
team during the Summer league. However this time it was a match up against
the unknown ‘B’ team who are currently 2 divisions below the Tulip ‘C’
side. Having lost their last 2 matches;
however the Tulip ‘C’ were in desperate need to finish the first half of the
season and enter the Christmas break with a win. Still missing is Jamie who looks more and
more likely to be out for the rest of the season, and Tam who is still
recovering from a bout of shingles.
Waspy’s current run of form still
doesn’t look like improving despite the attendance of Clair, the new
girlfriend. Waspy had his chances but
just seemed unable to grasp the victory. His opponent made a decent clearance,
needing the 2 visits he was granted when Waspy failed to control the white ball
and the first point went to the home side. 1-0.
Glenn tried his best to lose as well
missing at least 2 clear cut chances to finish until on the third attempt at
the same ball into the same pocket he succeeded and the scores were level. 1-1.
Ian appeared to have won his frame only
to snooker himself behind the only opposition ball in space. Escaping from the self made snooker,
Bluetooth then put the black near to a pocket and watched as his opponent
mopped up the rest of his object balls but left himself in the only possible
position where he couldn’t pot the black. A safety battle ensued
which resulted in Ian feathering the cue ball and gifting 2 visits. The Blue Lion man put the black into a
potable position then promptly missed it.
Ian nominated the pocket he expected the white to go into and potted the
black. Fortunately the white failed to
meet with expectations and the Tulip side were in front for the first time. 1-2.
MJ thought he’s put his opponent safe
and the game was his, but probably the best clearance of the night for the home
side was to occur and MJ left wondering how he’d not won! 2-2.
Pete had a similar experience but fell
foul only to misjudgement of the tables pace.
Wicksy had victory in sight but under hit the
position on his last ball. The Blue Lion
man potted an excellent first ball then went on to clear the table. 3-2.
Gordon looked calm and confident as he
cruised through his frame with very little challenge to level the scores once
more. 3-3.
Craig’s tactics looked a little off
colour and when he gave his opponent a foul with only the black to pot, it
seemed like the home side would retake the lead. However the player’s first shot went majorly
wrong and he snookered himself on the black.
Craig was given 2 visits and victory was snatched from the jaws of
defeat. 3-4.
The Captains had a big discussion over
the last player for singles and eventually Mike flexed his captaincy muscles
and Trevor was put into play. In full
knowledge that he was initially not the first choice Trevor flexed his pool
playing muscles and cleared the table from the break (Ian
says smart
arsed tosser!!!) then promptly went ahead and stuck
his fingers up at the vice captain! (Fair play…..but your still a smart arsed tosser
says Ian). 3-5.
Needing just one more point to win
another big discussion took place but this time the skipper capitulated to the
vice captains decision and played himself with Gordon. What could have proved
to be a scrappy game turned out to be a fairly comfortable one for the
travelling side and it was the Tulip C team who will be entered into the 3rd
round.
