MONDAY 23RD OCTOBER 2006
PREMIER A
AWAY
BRITISH LEGION
Always a tough venue to go to and one
that has always been a bit of a bogey team for the Tulip ‘C’ team. The table is
poor with lips in every pocket; space is at a minimum and the playing surface
slightly uneven. There’s even a great
big bump around the playing area so players are playing from different
levels! The team themselves have always
been strong but not the greatest side this division will produce.
Waspy started the evening off and
looked like he wasn’t even going to get a go at the table before his opponent
missed his last ball. Waspy’s class
showed through once more and a few tactical shots and pots later and Waspy was
the first to the black. However he couldn’t see the black and despite getting
out of the self made snooker failed to make any safety shot and his opponent
was good enough to finish the frame.1-0.
Glenn started off a bit rough but when
he got his eye in there was no stopping him.
The Badger was making pots to drool over and a fabulous 4 ball clearance
gave the travelling side a 1-2 lead.
Ian was very much out of sorts and had
a major dip in confidence during his frame which resulted in him failing to
make any safeties work and pots fail miserably.
No prizes in guessing who came 2nd in that frame!! 2-2.
A new cue and a revitalised Gordon put
the Tulip side back in front. Going
behind early on Gordon staged a great comeback and made some pots that in
previous weeks he would have struggles with due to his lack of confidence. 2-3.
Craig battled well to win his game and
give the travelling side a 2 frame lead.
Never really in any trouble Craig looked comfortable throughout and took
the chance when it presented itself. 2-4.
Trevor was drawn into another tactical
battle but again proved too clever for his opponent. When given 2 visits,
Trevor very rarely disappoints, and this time was no exception. 2-5.
Could the Tulip C team win the match in
the singles for an unprecedented 3rd week running? Captain Chrome
Dome Mike was to provide the answer, and the answer was to be a close, tough
run thing. Having 7 balls on the table
with his opponent on the black, Mike was put into a game he enjoys…..tuck &
hide! And not many people do that better
than the skipper. But it also meant Mike
had to use all the pockets to make his clearance, including the dreaded middle
bags! However, making not one but 2 pots into the middle bags Mike also had to
win the frame putting the black down one too.
Who says Mike can’t pot middle bag! 2-6.
Bonus points again the order for
doubles and all three pairings of Glenn & Jamie, Trevor & Waspy and
Gordon & Craig came up trumps to record yet another fabulous result for the
Tulip ‘C’.
