Old friends, old rivals
but always great fun. The best way to describe this match for
some of the Tulip ‘C’ team. For
some it was to be just another match but for Ian it was a match against a work
colleague and also for Mike and Gordon a match against players they’ve known
for years. Missing from the regular line
up for the Tulip ‘C’ were Tam & MJ both out due to work commitments, so
Gordon & Mike filled the void left open.
It was Glenn however that
was to get the ball rolling, but lady luck just won’t shine on him despite taking
an early lead in the frame. Glenn just couldn’t get onto his last ball, despite
some very adventurous potting, the final position failed to produce itself. Glenn
could only watch as his opponent made one major fluke that put him into
(although not a particularly easy) a clearance position. But it was a position the home player
completed. 1-0.
Trevor found himself in a
similar position, needing only one ball for a comfortable win after an
impressive potting spree. But the table proved to be deceptively quick in
places and Trevor over-ran the last positional shot, snookering himself on his
last ball. Despite Trevor getting out of the snooker he was only able to sit
& watch as his opponent made a clearance of his own to give the home side a
2-0 lead.
Ian & Mike levelled
the scores with victory in the first 45’s, comfortably winning 45-26 with Ian
making a total of 24 & Mike opening his seasons account with 17, the
highest break on the strange table being 9 made by Ian. 2-2
Gordon then gave the
travelling side the lead for the first time in the match in a scrappy game that
could have gone against him despite some good pots from the Turtle Wax Kid. However,
Gordon was able to ride his luck and when given the simplest of chances, the
Tulip man made no mistake. 2-3.
Waspy increased the lead shortly afterwards
playing some good tactical play to leave his opponent with very little space to
play with. When given his chance Waspy finished nicely. 2-4.
Trevor & Waspy then paired up once more and were never in any real
danger of losing, despite Trevor making an uncharacteristic foul. Both players were potting fairly well and
winning 45-16 with Trevor managing 19 after a 2-point deduction and Waspy making a total of 24. 2-6.
With defeat no longer a
possibility Mike entered the fray in singles, and Captain Chrome dome played a
very comfortable game. For someone who claims not to have picked up a cue for 6
weeks, Mike was in good form finishing without really being put under any pressure.
2-7.
Ian had a tough game
against his work colleague Kerrie Crouch in a game that was full of support for
the home player. Even Ian’s so called
teammates were cheering on the opposition.
Any chance to see Ian beaten by a woman would have been gratefully
received. But Ian was in no mood to
grant this wish. But it wasn’t to be an
easy game, as Kerrie almost made Ian pay for his nonchalance. But a missed pot gave the Tulip skipper his chance
and one he took. 2-8.
The home side however
were under licence to close the venue at 11pm and gifted the Tulip C 2 points
due to time constraints so Gordon & Glen were given 22 points each and the
game win.
