MONDAY 5th February 2007
PREMIER A
AWAY
THE FLYER ‘B’
A top of the table clash with the
current leaders travelling to 2nd placed, The Flyer B, with only 2
points separating the 2 teams. With all
the banter that’s been going on in the Guestbook recently, this was always
going to be a ‘vocal’ match with jibes and comments made by both teams, but
played with spirit and sportsmanship.
Waspy was first up for the Tulip C side
and was given a couple of chances to win the frame. However his confidence is slipping after a
few loses in recent weeks and Waspy was unable to capitalise on the
opportunities he was given. The Flyer
player however wasn’t quite as generous when presented with his opportunity! 1-0.
Glenn levelled the scores shortly after
as the in-form Tulip man look assured & confident in his potting and
positional play needing only 2 visits to finish the frame. 1-1.
Ian’s bad luck on the break
continued. He made probably his best
break all season but just couldn’t believe it when a Red travelled around the
table and then made a long pot on the white!
From there the Flyer man had a relatively simple finish. 2-1.
Craig had a chance to finish, albeit a
tough one, but opted to play the averages.
However the Flyer man played the pot superbly and PMA could only watch
as the home player made an impressive finish. 3-1.
With things not going well the Tulip
Captain opted to bring Trevor forward.
But in his first 2 visits the Tulip man managed to pot
the white both times! Giving these fouls away to players of the Flyer B’s
quality is suicidal, and although Trevor got another visit and managed to avoid
getting a hat trick of fouls the game was too far-gone for him to make any
impact. 4-1.
Gordon managed to get a frame back for
the travelling side potting reasonably well.
The home player should have done a lot better with his opportunities but
gave the Turtle Wax Kid too many chances. 4-2.
Tam played some excellent shots in his
frame including a very long plant. But
when he over-ran one of his positional pots he was placed on the back foot and
lost control of the frame. The Flyer player then taking his chance to clear and
putting the home side on the brink of victory. 5-2.
Mike lost the toss then watched as his
opposing captain almost cleared from the break.
Mike had one pot then missed out on snookering his adversary. From there it was game and match
over and any frames won for the Tulip C were damage limitation. 6-2.
Waspy & Trevor partnered again for
the first time in a few weeks and were put into trouble right from the start as
the home side rushed through their balls.
However the pairing did fight back and were even gifted a clearance
possibility. But when put into a position of tough pot to get onto black or
attempt a safety, Waspy opted for the former.
The pot was missed and the home side capitalised. 7-2.
Craig formed a new partnership with
Gordon and the pair started with a win. Both players contributing with pots. 7-3.
Pete & Glenn partnered for the
first time too but the frame was over before it really got started, with the
home side potting the black illegally in their first visit to the table.
A match victory puts the Flyer B on top
of the table but with the Tulip C only 3 points behind them with 6 matches to
play. The Compasses and the Bell will
also still be in the mix as things start to warm up in Chelmsford’s highest
Pool League.
