MONDAY 22nd JANUARY 2007
PREMIER A
AWAY
RIVERMEAD POOL CLUB
Always a difficult venue to play in due to the
condition of the tables, which is to be expected with the heavy extent of use
they receive. Rivermead pool club have
claimed some big games on their home ground so the Tulip C team arrived with
the hope of a win of any description.
But with the team’s winning ways in full swing the players were full of
confidence.
Waspy, seen below wearing the new team
shirt, started proceedings with a comfortable win despite making life difficult
for himself after a decent start. But
when his opponent gifted him 2 visits the Wasp stung his opponent by only
taking one of them. 1-0.

Unfortunately Glenn couldn’t increase the score
despite being given the option to double the black when his opponent still had
6 balls left on the table. However it
was an excellent 7 ball clearance that won the frame for the home player. 1-1.
Ian had a fabulous start to his frame, potting the
black off the break and requiring a re-rack.
The second attempt was even worse, with the cue ball flying into the
pocket after a decent split! However the vice captain quickly took control of
the frame but fell foul to a bad curl on the table. The Rivermead player however couldn’t
capitalise on his opportunity and gifted Ian 2 visits. With 2 balls over pockets and the black on
its spot, Ian still made life hard for himself but did pot a very good long
black to put the travelling side back in front. 1-2.
It was a lead increased by Gordon who only gave his
opponent one visit on the table before wiping the table clean with an excellent
and well controlled clearance. 1-3.
Mike gave the Tulip C side a 3 point lead after a
slight scare, the skipper getting to the black whilst his opponent still had 5
balls on the table. But with the frame
winning ball stuck on the rail Captain Chrome Dome was struggling to get any
sort of position to pot it. His opponent
made a decent clearance but when trying to get onto the black saw the white
fall into the top pocket. 2 visits and ball in hand was more than Mike needed.
1-4.
Craig put the away side on the hill comfortably
despite having the added pressure of his own team mates cheering on the away
side who just happened to be one of the only female players still in the
league, Rhonnda Wheeler. But even with
this added pressure Craig was more than comfortable and gave his opponent no
mercy when given his chance to finish. 1-5.
But it would take the doubles if the Tulip side
were to win this match as both Trevor & MJ crashed to defeats. Trevor another victim of the tables roll when
trying to lay a snooker. The resulting
foul meant a life-line for the home side. MJ was out of sorts having just
returned from his honeymoon and not having played any pool since before
Christmas. 3-5
The match was won by Glenn & Waspy after a long
running frame which went tactical. The boys played a good game despite both
being aggressive players, they showed they can play tactics when required. 3-6.
It was all about extra points now and Craig &
Ian gave the Tulip side a further point with-out ever really being tested. When Craig potted the black there were still
7 yellows on the table! 3-7.
Mike & Gordon wrapped the night up with yet another
comfortable win, the home side never really into the frame.
