THE WOOLPACK

A return to an old hunting ground here for many of the current Tulip C players as they travel to The Woolpack for the penultimate league match of the 2006/7 season.  With many old friends and for some, old team-mates, making up the opposition a good fun night was to be on the cards. With this added rivalry, comes extra pressure and at this delicate stage of the season every point counted for both teams.  The Woolpack are not in the running for any real chance of a top 2 finish in the division but are also not in any real danger of relegation.  However the Tulip C are still in the race for 2nd place albeit having only a very slim chance of getting it after the last few weeks performances.

But it was to be the Tulip side who came out of the blocks running taking a 4-0 lead with Ian battling through, Glenn making an 8 ball clearance on his first visit, Gordon stealing victory from the jaws of defeat and Jamie proving too strong for his opponent. The home side got themselves back into the game with Captain Paul taking advantage of MJ’s missed opportunities.  Trevor sailed past his opponent who put up only mild resistance before Craig failed to capitalise on his opportunity despite a simple finish.  Mike completed the singles for the Tulip side with a decent clearance after his opponent failed to take his chance.  With the Tulip C already the match winners by the end of the singles by a 2-6 score-line it was all about bonus points.

However Ian missed a chance to clear the table after the home side fouled off the break and Craig didn’t get a chance to play after the Woolpack player succeeded where Ian failed.  Trevor & Glenn also had their chance but a miscue from Trevor when he was looking to clear up gave the Woolpack pairing a chance to take control of the table and went on to win a tactical battle.  The final doubles saw Jamie & Mike pair up for the first time and again it was to become a tactical battle.  The Tulip pair won the frame after they put the black behind a group of opposition object balls and watched the Woolpack player sink it!

FINAL SCORE

WOOLPACK 4- 7 TULIP ‘C’
