PREMIER A

WOOLPACK ‘A’

The previous two weeks have been good for the Tulip ‘C’ and we were looking to continue the good form (and luck where needed) with the hope of building some momentum going into the cups.

The night could not have started any better with Gordon winning the first frame. G broke and was unlucky not to make a total clearance. The Woolpack’s player came back strong but was unlucky to go in off giving G two shots. Although G did not clear with these two, his opponent was unable to do anything and G cleared on his next visit. 0 – 1

Waspy was unlucky to lose frame 2, with both players having a bit of luck on their way to leave a black ball game. Faced with a long black, Waspy drilled the ball to the corner pocket only to see it rattle and stay over the pocket. 1 – 1

MJ putting in a rare appearance made short work of frame 3 and finished the frame with a couple of very good shots.  1 – 2

Ian sporting a new t-shirt with his own ‘The Cat’ logo proved that he does have an ‘A’ game he can use on match nights. His opponent won the toss, broke and watched the cue ball go in off. That was his one and only visit to the table and 8 shots later he was shaking the grinning Cheshire cat’s paw. 1 – 3

Tam having driven back from Felixstowe to make up the eighth player had one of those frames. Both players seemed to have the frame won several times but eventually Tam took one of his chances and the frame was won. 1 – 4

Andy’s frame saw the new kid on the block pot all his balls only to leave himself snookered on the black. Eventually after a couple of exchanges the Woolpack player knocked in the last couple of balls and the black for the home team’s second frame. 2 – 4

Mike once again doing what he does best managed to drag his frame down to a dirty tactical battle. All seemed well and with two shots looked like the frame was in the bag. Unfortunately he too managed to foul and his opponent made no mistakes and cleared. 3 – 4

Trevor’s opponent broke and went in off. Trevor then potted his first two balls but failed to dislodge the one awkward ball on the table. He then continued to clear the remainder of the balls without ever having a chance to move the one awkward ball. Trying to dislodge the offending ball he managed to pot one of the opponent’s balls down the rail to the corner. The Woolpack player never looking in any trouble cleared through his balls until he accidentally went in off just as the frame was at his mercy. Trevor then potted his last ball and the black for the frame. (Did I hear lucky b*st*rd)     3 – 5

The three doubles were all won by the Tulip C. 3 – 8

The pairings were Gordon & Waspy, Ian & Andy and Trevor & Tam. With Craig and Ian having a surprisingly low success rate this season, we seem to have found (over recent weeks) new very successful pairings in Ian & Andy and Trevor & Craig. Do you think the Skip’s noticed?

Let’s see if we can win the final league game next week and take this current good form on into the cups.
