BIRD
CAGE A
Some recognisable faces
from the winter league turned up for this match, with the Premier A side The Birdcage being the visitors this week to the
Tulip. However on current form the Tulip ‘C’ side are going to be tough nuts to
crack especially with their sister team ‘Tulip Allstars’
also playing at home on the other table.
Glenn gained his first
win of the summer season albeit rather fortuitously. Glenn’s luck this season
has been on holiday with the player being more on the receiving side of bad luck.
Showing signs of increasing confidence, Glenn looked to be in control of the
frame when his opponent attempted a tricky cut to the middle pocket. Unfortunately for him he clipped the black,
which dropped into the bottom corner pocket, gifting the frame to the Tulip
player. 1-0.
Gordon was again in
rampant form when taking the place of the working Tam. His opponent was never
really in the match as Gordon cruised through his game & never looked like
losing despite heavy barracking from his team mates who for some reason were
chanting the theme to ‘I Love Genie’???? (Gordon a.k.a. Gee = Genie ???) 2-0.
Ian & Trevor paired
up again for the first 45’s and the opposition were flattered with a 45-16
defeat, 4 of their points were gifts from Ian who’s continuous bad luck from
breaks gave them 2 bonus points. Ian also gave then 2 further points by an
audacious treble that saw the pocket bound yellow clatter the cue ball into the
pocket. However with Trevor making 14
and Ian making 22 after deductions the game was fairly one sided. 4-0.
MJ’s temper got the better
of him again in his frame. Not playing badly but winding himself up over
certain shots cost MJ the point in a frame that could have gone either way. MJ
had his chances but a drop in concentration put MJ onto unforced errors and it
was to be these errors that gave the travelling side their first point of the
night. 4-1.
Waspy got the home side back into winning
ways playing a very buxom female who seemed to delight in showing her ample
cleave off to anybody nearby. This failed to work on Waspy,
who despite not playing to his full ability, had enough skill to ward off the
feeble attack from the Birdcage player. 5-1.
The match was won for the
home side at the 2nd 45’s.
Glenn & Gordon paired up to crush the opposition despite both
players starting off poorly. Glenn made the highest break of the night with 14
and could have made more, had that not have been the game winning break. The
home side won the game 45-21 with both players scoring 19 after a 2 point
deduction for Glenn. 7-1.
Ian’s form appears to be
returning as he made a good clearance in his singles with his opponent only
getting one visit to the table, which resulted in 1 pot and an in-off with the
white. Ian took his opportunity to confidently clear his last 5 balls & the
black. 8-1.
Trevor finished off the
singles with a fortuitous win after he missed a couple of chances to clear just
because of an under hit shot. His opponent looked set to clear up but missed a
fairly simple long black. Trevor then
made amends for his earlier failings to clear and gave the home side a tasty
9-1 lead.
MJ & Waspy finished the night off with a close fought game of
45’s, with neither side really making any high scoring breaks. MJ looked out of
sorts and Waspy just couldn’t get going but
fortunately for them neither could their opponents. At 39-39 & 6 points
available on the table, Waspy took on a tricky long
pot & missed. This proved to be decisive and the travelling side took the
final 6 points of the match with a 39-45 win. MJ making 19 & Waspy making 18 with both having a 2 point deduction.
