ESSEX TROPHY

HOME

BLACK BULL ‘D’

Australia v Scotland (cricket), Federer v Bogdanovic (tennis), Brazil v Faroe Islands (football), Valentino Rossi v the A1 scooter boys (motto GP), Tiger Woods v anyone (golf) are all reasonable comparisons to how most players, including the opposition, viewed this match. After all, the Tulip C are a Premiere A side and the reigning Essex Trophey champions, beating the mighty Compasses in the final last year. In other words…….we couldn’t lose.

Arsenal v Hull and Southend v Manchester United (football), James Blake v Federer (tennis), Ireland v Pakistan (cricket), Mike Tyson v James Buster Douglas (boxing) are all good examples of what can happen when you think you can’t lose.

There will be no frame by frame dissection here as there is no need to rub salt into any sore wounds. We gifted away frames and played poorly across the board. Furthermore, two of our frames won were gifted to us, one of which was when the opponent potted black and cue ball. The two exceptions who can hold their heads high and proud were Craig and MJ. Craig broke and dished to keep us in the match at 4 – 4. Earlier in the match MJ also ran out an 8 ball clearance when his opponent gave him 2 shots. Nothing must be taken away from the Black Bull D either. They played well and only played what we put in front of them. They may have had the odd bit of luck along the way but hell so did we? That sort of thing happens and usually evens itself out.

One individual (no names) was so disgusted that he declared his retirement from the game. I am sure I speak for the rest of the team and hope he reconsiders. It was a one off and it happens. Let’s hope we can learn from it. Anyway we can get things back on track as we have an easy opening fixture in the league, home to the Flyer LOL. Bizarrely, I bet you we play a darn sight better than we did in this game.

As there was no match report for last week’s game, it is worth noting that Andy made an 8 ball clearance in the doubles.
