PREMIERE

BLUE
LION ‘A’
The evening did not start as well as it could with Pete, MJ and
Mike all unavailable due to work commitments. This meant that Tam had to be
prized out of bed and George drafted in off the bench. Even Rob who was working
late rushed home and back just in time as frames were running out. With Ian
(vice skip) playing frame one and going on to work we were just about lucky enough
to field a full team. Anyway…. To the game.
Frame one started well with Ian winning, with a little help from
the now infamous middle pocket lip, before disappearing off to work. 1 – 0.
Both Andy then Gordon failed in frames two and three despite
their best endeavours. 1 – 2.
Tam then still clearing the sleep from his eyes, poor fella had
to go to work at 2:30am, stepped forward for frame four. Both players had early
chances to take control however when given two shots at the closing stages, Tam
cleared his last four balls and the black to take the frame. 2 – 2
In frame 5 Trevor won the toss and broke. Seven shots later he
was faced with a fine cut down the rail on the black for the frame. The ball
was nearly potted but remained over the corner pocket covering at least 4
balls. The opponent then potted and laid a snooker.
Trevor played a deliberate foul leaving at best a half chance pot. The pot was
very well taken but a resulting canon knocked the black in giving Trevor the
win. 3 – 2
George was dragged off the subs bench to play the 6th
frame and nearly played a blinder. Given two visits he nearly ran out his last
five balls but just run out of position at the end. A couple of shots later it
was all over and the scores were back level. 3 – 3
With Craig and Rob left we could be forgiven for thinking we
would go into the doubles all square. However both Craig, and shortly after
Rob, both missed good chances to win their respective frames. Whilst neither
were simple guilt edged chances, both will feel they should have won. So alas,
we enter the doubles 3 – 5 down needing all three for the win. With that in
mind, pairings were picked with an attempt to bring a balance to all three.
Unfortunately, the best laid plans of mice…etc
We stumbled at the first hurdle and the Blue Lion claimed their
victory when Tam and Andy lost. To be fair to the pair, the opposition just
potted them off the table and gave them no chance. 3 – 6.
Fortunately some respect was brought to the score line when
first Gordon and Rob, and then Trevor and Craig won their games to give a final
score of 5 – 6.
As always, a very good night was had with the lads from the Blue
Lion.
