COMPASSES

A big match for both sides, who find themselves near the top of the table but fighting to stay there.  A lot of history between the 2 teams meant that they know each other quite well.  Mike, the Tulip ‘C’ Captain was out with the flu so Vice Captain Ian took control for the home side.

Glenn was put first up but never had a chance to get into the frame, having only 1 visit to the table with nothing to play with and very few options even for a decent safety. 0-1.

Waspy had a better frame than the Wadger but when faced with an option of difficult long plant through a group of opposition balls or tricky snooker/safety, chose the former.  The resulting miss gave his opponent the chance to clear, which he did. 0-2.

Gordon was also on the rails early on and also chose the aggressive option when a safety may have been the better option.  He also fell foul to the skill of the compasses players. 0-3.

Pete looked like he was to become the first point for the home side and looked calm and collected as he sliced through the reds.  But on the last ball Pete had to settle for getting it close to the pocket and hope his opponent didn’t do better than he did.  Unfortunately once again the Compasses player showed his class and the points kept racking up. 0-4.

Cue the comeback!

Rob started the fight-back giving the compasses a taste of their own medicine!  The travelling player missed a fairly simple pot following the break and left Rob a nice open table. No second invitation required. 1-4.

Craig should have lost from the break but the Compasses man failed to pot a simple black after clearing the table of yellows.  A tactical battle ensued and Craig had plenty of places to hide.  Eventually it was the Tulip man who came through victorious. 2-4.

Trevor was also in no mood to mess about and cruised through the yellows giving his opponent only one real chance to save the frame. 3-4.

Tam lost the toss but won the frame in style making a difficult clearance look very easy indeed. 4-4

But then things went very awry in the doubles.  Craig & Ian had a chance but failed to capitalise.  Rob snookered himself on his last ball with 2 visits when partnering Glenn to make the scores 6-4 to the away side.  Trevor & Tam did salvage the final point to keep the scores close but in a match that could have gone either way it was the Compasses that take the victory.
