RED LION

Last week saw an emphatic defeat away at the Bell and we are at the ‘beyond a miracle’ point in terms of league silverware. It was time for fun….time for the Captain to mix it up a bit… or so you would think. With so many missing players leaving only eight in attendance, two of which had to play singles and go due to work commitments, the only choice was what order and who paired who. So who said we didn’t need a big squad?

So to frame one where Ian ‘The Cat’ stepped up being one of the two who had to go to work straight after his frame? Why ‘The Cat’ I hear you ask? Is because he has amazing vision and can play in the dark? Or perhaps it’s because he cunningly and quietly stalks his pray until a chance prevents itself and he pounces in for the kill? Oh no. It’s because he has the amazing knack of playing opponents that when he is not firing on all cylinders will give him life after life after life. (Editor’s note:- Don’t shoot the messenger, it’s a comment from the whole team)  Ian was not at his absolute best probably with half an eye on the time he never seemed to get a hold of the frame. Yet his opponent seemed desperate to help and gifted Ian visit after visit until eventually Ian obliged and knocked in the black. I personally am glad to have a player in the team for whom when form deserts, lady luck lends a hand. If we all had that gift we would win the Bl**dy league LOL. Don’t upset her mate; keep her by your side ;-). 1 – 0

Frame two saw the return of MJ who with work and personal commitments has not been playing as much as he would like. He too needed to play and go due to an appointment with one or two of life’s undesirables at about 3am. (Kinda feel sorry for them). It would appear that the lack of table time in recent months proved to be no obstacle as MJ took the second frame without ever looking like losing. 2 – 0

Frames 3 & 4 were won by Andy and Gordon respectively. In particular, Gordon has continued with his newly found form for the last 4 or 5 weeks and cruised to victory without giving the opponent more than a sniff at the table. 4 – 0

For frame 5 the captain sent Pete in to battle, a player who we all know is far better than his singles stats would suggest. Just ask Craig about the pre match frames they had together. At one point Craig was asking for a fire extinguisher as Pete was on fire!!!!! Surely Pete could bring that form to the match table and improve his season’s record. Imagine the horror when Pete loss the toss and watched his opponent break and dish! Don’t worry mate, I had it two weeks in a row….. 4 – 1

That frame was to be the last frame that the Red Lion would win. Singles wins for Mike, Craig and Trevor followed. Trevor had no opponent yet again, yawn.

The doubles saw wins for Andy & Pete, Mike & Gordon and Trevor & Craig.

Oh and Craig says you are well dumped Ian. Hehe.
