RIVERMEAD POOL CLUB
Adversaries from a few years ago and a team that
always struggled to beat the Tulip ‘C’ side are the Rivermead
Pool Club. But a few new faces and a few
faces missing from the line up that battled to promotion 2 years ago meant the Rivermead side were not to be taken lightly. However still in buoyant mood after last week’s
romp the home side were ready and up for the fight.
And a fight they certainly got with Waspy starting
the battle. The Rivermead
man had a fabulous start clearing his balls in the first visit to the table
before fouling and giving Waspy a chance to shine. Making a few pots then snookering the Tulip
player made good progress in the frame but his opponent wasn’t going to give up
without a battle and when he jawed the black Waspy was left with a do or die
position. With his last ball 2 inches
from the bottom rail and the white closer to the top, Waspy had to double the
full table length and got a huge roar from the home team when he made the pot!
A simple black gave the first point to the home side.
Jamie showed his class by clearing the table in 2
visits, his opponent not managing a single pot.
Jamie will feel a little disappointed not to have done the job from the
break but for a slightly under-hit shot.
But job done and the Tulip C were enjoying a 2-0 lead.
However that lead was halved after Glenn just
missed out from some good potting by the Rivermead
man 2-1.
Ian started shaky but eventually got his game
together to win fairly comfortably and give the Tulip side another 2 frame
lead. 3-1.
Craig’s form is still on the up and he was more
than comfortable in his frame giving his opponent very little to play with
before eventually finishing in a flurry of pots. 4-1.
Trevor put the home side on the brink of victory
with a calm and collected frame that was never going to run away from him. 5-1.
Tam however crashed out to some good tactical play
from the visitors. A table rusty Tam
looked out of sorts but managed to give the travelling player a run for his
money. But a good run of pots &
covering shots gave Tam very little chance to make a clearance before his
opponent did the job. 5-2.
Mike put the victory to bed without ever looking
like losing. He made it difficult for
himself but his opponent was never going to get to the black before the
skipper. When Mike was given a second
chance he took it. 6-2.
Jamie & Waspy paired up for the first time and
again the Rivermead’s best players were no match for
the boys, both players making some good pots and playing some tactical play
before cruising to victory. 7-2.
Gordon & Trevor were again in no real danger of
losing and romped to victory with Gordon making some good pots & Trevor
pulling the tactical strings. 8-2.
Craig & Ian finished the night with a win after
seeing the away side pot 6 of their balls without a reply. Craig potted a few and the pair was forced
into a tactical battle before Ian was given 2 visits. He cleared the table including the black and
still had a shot to spare!
The team all played fantastically and not only the
banter and teamwork on the table, but off it too. In Mikes own words “Awesome – we are just
awesome!”
