MONDAY 22ND OCTOBER 2007
PREMIER A
AWAY
ODDFELLOW ARMS
A replay of the first game of the
season saw the Tulip C once again travel to newly promoted Oddfellows Arms this
time in the league. Still awaiting their
first win in Premier A the Oddfellows could well be in
for a long season and could well be one of the favourites for the drop despite
having a fairly skilful side.
First up for the travelling side was
Gordon who until this frame remained unbeaten in singles. But the teams most on form player didn’t look
comfortable on the table and made several early mistakes which were to
ultimately prove fatal. 1-0.
Ian was challenged by a work mate who
had been eagerly awaiting the chance to play the Tulip C Vice
Captain in a competitive match. Winning
the toss the home player broke but made a basic error of failing to nominate
and Ian was able to take command of the frame.
The Oddfellows man tried to get himself back into it playing tactically
but Ian was having none of it, and when given a chance to clear did so
comfortably. 1-1.
Waspy potted well until his last ball
when he started to struggle. He then
almost became the first “sissy” of the season when his female opponent looked
to have cleared comfortably but failed to finish the black off. Waspy potted his last ball comfortably but
needed a massive black to win the frame, which in typical Waspy style, he made
look easy. 1-2.
Saz will feel disappointed to have lost
her frame despite being behind for the most of it. Saz was given 2 visits but one poor pot
attempt put her on the back foot. Making
the correct decision to play a safety rather than attempt another difficult pot
her opponent did pot the black with a very tricky pot to level the scores. 2-2.
From there on in it was one way traffic,
Rob having no problems cruising through his pack, the big Jock Tam showing no
signs of being table rusty despite not having played for several weeks and
Trevor was looking unbeatable. Mike
however dragged himself over the winning line in a frame that he should really
have lost and would have done if he tried a little bit harder. But his win gave the Tulip C side the match
winner before reaching the doubles. 2-6.
Tam and Trevor struggled through the
opening doubles but once again still proved to be too good for the home
side. Mike & Rob paired up for the
first time ever and looked comfortable for the point before Ian & Waspy
bored the opposition off the table to record another valuable point.
